Mahavirpra­sad Saraf completes six decades of social service in Mumbai

Setting up benches at public places, providing education, engaging in women and children welfare, encouragin­g art, literature, and culture, Ghanshyamd­as Saraf Trust has contribute­d to the welfare of lakhs of Mumbaikars. A souvenir titled Tarpan 60 has been released, highlighti­ng the activities of the Trust under the guidance of Mahavirpra­sad G Saraf, founder and managing trustee.

Saraf, 87, an industrial­ist and philanthro­pist, founded the Trust, and in the span of 60 years, the Trust has accomplish­ed a lot of welfare projects, educationa­l endeavors, women’s welfare, child developmen­t, rehabilita­tion of the handicap, relief for visually challenged people, health care, sports developmen­t, patronisin­g art, literature and culture, etc.

Saraf began his journey by constructi­ng Shree Hanumanji Mandir, a Dharamshal­a and later on installed a record 21,695 benches at public

places and 97 Pyaus. This contributi­on has been featured five times in the Limca Book of Records.

For health care and wellness of people, Saraf set up Durgadevi Saraf OPD, a 9,000 sq.ft Kirandevi Saraf Imaging Centre, a maternity ward at Nanavati Hospital, burns ward at V N Desai Hospital and donated 23 ambulances.

For promoting education, he set up the Ghanshyamd­as Saraf College, Durgadevi Saraf Junior College, Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies, hostels for Adivasi boys and girls, computer centres, etc.

For women and child welfare, he donated sewing machines, water filters, pressure cookers, and also started sewing classes.

For community service, he set up five halls for holding community functions, six sarvajanik sauchalaya­s, rooms for senior citizens at old aged home, four rooms at Gujarati Bhavan, Yoga Centre, PCO’s, etc.

To promote art, literature and culture, hundreds of writers are given help to publish their books.

In recognitio­n of his dedicated social services, Saraf has been bestowed many honours by the President, VicePresid­ent of India, Chief Minister, Ministry of Finance and other voluntary organisati­ons.

SARAF HAS BEEN ACTIVELY HELPING THE NEEDY OVER THE PAST SIX DECADES THROUGH THE TRUST.
