DIY UBTANS TO GET THAT FESTIVE GLOW

During the olden days, ubtan, a face pack made with natural ingredient­s at home, was the perfect remedy for a smoother skin. Skincare expert Shahnaz Husain shares, “Ubtan can be prepared at home with basic ingredient­s and can help cleanse the skin while keeping the pores free of clogged oil.”

Take three tablespoon­s of choker (wheat bran), one tablespoon each of ground almonds, honey, curd and rose water. Mix together into a paste and apply on the face, neck and arms, avoiding lips and the area around eyes. Wash off after 30 minutes.

Ripe papaya has cleansing action and contains an enzyme called papain, which helps remove dead skin cells while brightenin­g the skin. Add oats and curd to papaya. Apply on the face and rub gently on the skin, washing it off with water.

THE AYURVEDIC WAY

For oily skin, soak two tablespoon­s of moong dal in water overnight. Make a paste, by adding four tablespoon­s of curd and half teaspoon turmeric. Apply on face with a light massage. Wash off after 20 minutes. It reduces oiliness and brightens the skin.

Apply these homemade ubtans for a brighterlo­oking skin

Ubtans were traditiona­lly coarsely prepared from a ground legume. “As you should per Ayurveda, tailor the ubtan with dosha or the your specifical­ly imbalanced that you are experienci­ng. dosha doshas There are three - vata, pitta and kapha. dosha ubtan A vata should be used at body temperatur­e. 2 oz. lentil flour (chana

¼ dal) oz. sesame seed oil

1 tsp. fenugreek seed

½ powder tsp. turmeric powder Sufficient (optional) wheat germ oil, castor milk to make a oil, or paste

“In pitta ubtan, add juice aloe vera or lime while making a paste ubtan, and in kapha add spring water to with the make a paste other ingredient­s,” says Ahuja.

Mix two tablespoon­s of honey with rose water and four tablespoon­s of dried milk powder. Mix and apply on the face, neck and arms. Remove after 20 minutes with water. If one’s skin is on the oily side, one can add multani mitti to the mix.
