It’s a big loss: Industry friends miss KK

- Text by Kavita Awaasthi and Rishabh Suri

SHANKAR MAHADEVAN

It is a big loss for the industry. KK was a wonderful guy and a fabulous singer. He brought in a lot of energy whenever he entered the studio.

SALIM MERCHANT

The one thing KK told me when we were recording Aashayein for Iqbal was, ‘Salim, I want your voice to be there in the song, too.’ It is quite rare for any singer to say that. He had no insecurities. He was a lovely human being.

KUMAR SANU

I am shocked. I can’t believe that KK is no more with us. Among the current lot, if there was a saksham singer, then it was him. He was so fit. I don’t understand what happened. He was a wonderful person, who respected his seniors.

ANU MALIK

This is tragic and traumatic. I equate him to the humbleness of late singer Mohammed Rafi saab. KK had passion for singing and always wanted his work to speak for itself. He loved performing at concerts as he felt closer to his fans. He represented the youth of India. He sang Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam and Gujarati songs. My heart is crying for his family.

EHSAAN NOORANI

He was a fantastic singer and performer. He will always be remembered for the lovely human being he was. Always positive and smiling. He always met me with a hug. We were never close friends, but we did a lot of work together. This (his death) shows the unpredictability of life. I remember meeting him at the airport often.

ANURAG BASU

I couldn’t believe this news. Pritam (Chakraborty, composer) and I got on call twice or thrice over the night because we collaborated with KK on so many films. I became his fan after I heard him for the first time in Pal, and insisted on getting him on board to sing for my first film, Saaya (2003).
