Having worked in several Hindi projects, Mrunal Thakur is excited about her first Telugu outing, Sita Ramam, alongside actor Dulquer Salmaan. Calling movies from the south a “game changer”, the Jersey actor says, “During the pandemic, we saw how OTT platforms ushered in the focus on only good content. And even after things opened up, films such as RRR proved that the audience [just] wants good content. It’s no longer about the language. Content is getting a wider reach globally now.”

Speaking of the value of content, the 29-year-old is proud of her first Hindi film, Love Sonia (2018), which had an unconventional storyline. All for taking risks, Thakur shares, “I was supposed to become a journalist, but I followed my heart and passion. I was good at facing the camera and did television before getting into films. Love Sonia was a breakthrough, but I remember what happened during the auditions.”

She adds that it was during the auditions for the film when she first experienced the discrimination against TV actors. “I was in the queue and two folders (with her pictures) were being made. When only one folder was given to director Tabrez Noorani (the director of the film), he asked his assistant, ‘Why are you not showing me the second one?’ The assistant replied, ‘Woh TV ka hai, please mat dekho.’ So Tabrez insisted, as he comes from a background where it’s not about TV or films. Hollywood mein actors TV bhi karte hain aur films bhi, so how does it matter?” the Toofaan (2021) actor ends.
