-

Ghazal fans are in for a treat as singer Ritu Johri’s new album, titled The Immortals, is out now. It has ghazals written by veteran composer, playback singer and lyricist, late Ravindra Jain. It was launched by singer Sonu Nigam. The music was composed by Shiv Rajoria. It comprises five ghazals — Bebasi De Gaya, Umar Bhar Imtihan Leti Hai, Ab Jo Zindagani Hai, Jhoothe Ko Bhi Woh Haal Mera and Jin Par Ghazal Kahein.

An admirer of Jain’s work, Nigam was more than happy to launch this album.

Johri is a B. High Grade Artist of All India Radio, Agra. She has been honoured with the titles of Sangeet Shiromani, Sangeet Suman and Sangeet Kalp. She says, “It’s an honour to be singing songs written by the legendary Ravindra Jain ji. Despite the success he received in his life, he was a simple, grounded man. He was born blind, but had the ability to understand the music that would appeal visually, just like any other creative person with vision. The whole world was stunned as to how he did it. The lyrics of the ghazals in The Immortals bear testimony to his incredible talent.”

The music video of Bebasi De Gaya will soon be out on

Johri’s YouTube channel. It will also feature Divya Jain, wife of the late musician.

Johri states, “Divya ji is a lovely person and was sweet to agree to feature in the video. I am sure she must have been overwhelmed looking at old photographs during the filming of the song. I want to say a big thank you to her for agreeing to be a part of this special song.”

In 2010, Johri’s debut album named Begani was released by Vision Corporation with ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali. Recently, she also released another ghazal album with singer Roopkumar Rathod, named Perception.
