A maiden over for Suresh Raina
Cricketer Suresh Raina officially went off the singles market on Friday night, after he married family friend, banker Priyanka Chaudhary, in a starry ceremony at a Delhi hotel. Fans and media gathered outside to catch a glimpse of the celebrities, as security kept them from getting close to the venue.
The stars, too, stayed away from the flashbulbs. Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and wife Sakshi Dhoni escaped media frenzy as their car passed very swiftly by the entrance. In trying to avoid getting clicked, cricketer Mohit Sharma’s car bumped into a barricade at the gate. Raina’s teammates — Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan with wife Ayesha and Virender Sehwag and his wife Aarti, too, attended the wedding, while vicecaptain of the team, Virat Kohli, and his girlfriend actor Anushka Sharma stayed away. The couple had, however, attended Raina’s engagement on Wednesday. Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey, West Indian cricketer Dwayne Bravo and former New Zealand skipper Stephen Flemming, too, came to wish the newlyweds. Actor Anupam Kher tweeted pictures from the wedding and wrote, “Had a great time chatting with @ msdhoni and his charming wife @SaakshiSRawat at @ ImRaina’s wedding..:) #inspirational (sic).
Cricketer Suresh Raina must have hummed his favourite romantic song several times in his head on Friday evening, when the 28-year-old tied the knot in the Capital. The star-studded gala went on till the wee hours of the morning in the company of Raina’s teammates and international cricketers, along with other sporting stars. Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav along with cricketers Ambati Rayudu, Ashish Nehra who came with wife Rushma, Irfan Pathan and Mohammad Kaif, who was accompanied by wife Pooja, were also present.
