Actor Ritiesh Deshmukh says his political background has, however, helped him become a better speaker
Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh (left) says that being from a political family has no bearing on the kind of movies he chooses to be a part of.
The 36-year-old star, son of late Maharashtra chief minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, says, “I don’t think political background has anything to do with the films I should be doing, otherwise I wouldn’t have done Grand Masti.”
However, he thinks that a political background has made him a better speaker. “I hope being from a political family, I have become wiser because one is careful with the words they speak. Being an architect has taught me that less is more. I choose words wisely. There are times when I keep my opinion to myself. If I say something, it might be taken out of context,” says Riteish.
Commenting on the hype around 100-crore collection for a film being considered a standard for success in Bollywood today, the Housefull star says that a movie should be viewed beyond this standard. “It (the ` 100 crore club) has become a benchmark, which is great. But every film has a different viewpoint, so the business dynamics of every film is different. It should not be the barometer for every film to be successful,” he says, adding that even though a film may earn ` 100 crore, it may not make impressive profits because its cost of production may be equally high. “The barometer is the budget of the film, what is the total investment and recovery,” he says.
“Today, there are various ways of recovery like music rights, satellite rights, digital, home video and others. The budget of his upcoming film is not so high that it has to reach the mark of ` 100 crore,” says the actor, who will soon be seen in a comedy satire directed by filmmaker Karan Anshuman.
