It can’t get any better for thrifty fashionistas. With a slew of online portals and Facebook shops offering gently used fashion and beauty goodies at almost half the price, buying hand-medowns is not a taboo anymore. From branded clothes, bags, sunglasses and footwear to lightly used cosmetics, young people in the city who can’t afford luxury brands are happily shopping online from stores selling second-hand fashion.

“I recently bought a pair of designer sunglasses from a portal. I got it for half the price. This is definitely better than buying fakes,” says Radhika Gupta, 27. Apart from clothes and accessories, fashionistas are also cool about buying lightly used makeup. “We try testers in stores and don’t worry about others having used them before us. As long as you are not being tricked into buying expired cosmetics, there shouldn’t be any issues with buying used makeup,” says Kanchan Gupta, administrator of the Facebook page Upcycle in Delhi-NCR that sells second hand products.

And, if you have fashion items that you don’t like anymore, you can easily sell them online. “We arrange free pick-up of second-hand items. After quality checks, we get them sanitised and photographed. They are then uploaded on our site for sale,” says Aboli Salvi, founder of ShareWardrobe.com.

If you can buy used cars and furniture, then why not fashion items? It’s a cool option for those who want designer luxury at half the price Anvita Mehra, founder of a luxury portal that sells second-hand fashion
