Actor Vidya Balan (above) is currently involved in the post production of filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s next film. But despite her busy schedule, she will be promoting Marathi cinema at a film festival in Australia.

Balan will be presenting Marathi film Ekk Albela at the festival. With this initiative, Vidya will be the first actor to present a Marathi film to be screened in Australia.

“Vidya is encouraging the organisers of every cinema event she attends, to have screenings of regional cinema apart from Hindi films. She believes that regional cinema contributes to enlightening the West about various facets of Indian culture,” says the actor’s spokesperson.

“Vidya hopes that the special screening of Ekk Albela will hopefully generate more interest around Marathi cinema and Indian regional films as a whole on a global platform. The film is based on life of veteran actor Bhagwan Dada. Vidya makes a special appearance as she reprises yesteryear’s actor Geeta Bali in the film,” says a source. Vidya has been part of successful films such as Parineeta(2005),Ishqiya (2010) and The Dirty Picture (2011).
