Simple shaadi, grand reception: what happened, and what’s next
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh went off the market officially, as he tied the knot with British-Mauritian model, Hazel Keech, on Wednesday. As expected, the venue — Dera Baba Ram Singh in Daferra village (35 km from Chandigarh) of district Fatehgarh Sahib of Punjab — saw hundreds of Yuvi fans outside the venue.
The ‘Laavan’ ceremony (Sikh wedding ritual) was held in a 15-feet wide hall with no VIP company. Only a few family members and relatives, except father Yograj Singh, attended, and a langar (lunch) followed. Dera head Baba Ram Singh — who Yuvi’s mother, Shabnam Singh, is a devotee of — recited Lavaan.
While the wedding was simple, the functions before and after are nothing but glittery and star-studded. After the mehendi in a Chandigarh hotel, Yuvi and Hazel danced to Punjabi folk songs at the pre-wedding bash. Yuvi wore a JJ Valaya sherwani and Hazel, a blackand-white Valaya anarkalilehenga. The functions saw Virat Kohli, Ayushmann Khurana, Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma and Ashish Nehra, among guests.
For the post-wedding reception on Wednesday, “Peacock shades were used in the floral decoration that included orchids, roses and brassica,” says set designer Abhishek Kaushik. “Hazel wanted the theme to be classy and elegant with no pinks. Yuvi was happy with whatever Hazel wanted,” he adds. What’s next? A wedding ceremony in Goa on Dec 2, and a grand reception in Delhi on December 7.
