COAT-ED IN STYLE

- Nikita Sachdev

It’s that time of the year again, when you can layer like a boss to make quirky sartorial statements. If you don’t like bulking up with sweaters, robe-style coats are the way to go. “One can wear long coats with skinny jeans, leggings and boots or over a dress with high heels. If you like to experiment, wear a belted trench-style coat like a dress with stockings and long boots,” says designer Pawan Sachdeva.

Trench coats, pea jackets and other overcoats have always remained in vogue, but a little style experimentation is the way forward. “These are big trends every winter but Parisian-style coats are making a huge noise this season. These coats are typically the same length as your dress. Pair with flats instead of boots,” says designer Anupama Dayal.

“Every winter we see an iconic trend from the past being reinterpreted on the runway. Long coats look beautiful when used for layering or using it as a key piece in your ensemble. A sharp feminine suit with a long coat sitting beautifully on the shoulders makes it a head turner,” says designer Anand Bhushan.

Designer Nida Mahmood also offers us some more inspiration to coat up in style. “Team your robe jackets and overcoats in cool, normcore ways. Loose, anti-fit woollen tops and pullovers with a lightweight wool trench coat can do the trick. This look works well with leggings and boots or ankle boots. Top the look off with a fun bouclé yarn scarf,” Mahmood says.
