The mouth is the mirror of the body and so it becomes mandatory to always take care of our teeth. With winter here, you have to change up your brushing routine too. From avoiding sugar cravings during the chill season and monitoring the exact time you take to complete your brushing routine daily — these easy steps can go a long way in ensuring your oral health. Here are some tips that’ll make sure you are doing it right:

You could be doing it all wrong: Brushing teeth is essential, but not for too long. Your brushing time needs to be monitored. ADA (American Dental Association) recommends brushing for not more than two-three minutes. Over brushing teeth can cause increased sensitivity.

Too many aerated beverages can ruin teeth health too: Yes, we all are a little hungrier in winter, but say yes to hot beverages rather than acidic carbonated drinks which tend to erode the teeth.

Avoid infections: If you’ve been sipping on cider or opting for spicy treats during the holidays, canker sores can actually set in and ruin your fun. If you’re already suffering, try swishing your mouth with warm salt water as it helps clean the sores and faster healing. Alcohol-free sore mouth rinses will also help relieve the pain in such a situation, so don’t panic!

Season sugar cravings? Put a lid on them: In winter, one more thing to take care of is to cut down on the sugar intake, as this along with decreased water intake in the season increases chances of cavities. So keep a tab on those hot cakes and chocolates.
