Saif Ali Khan is a happy man these days, no prizes for guessing why. The actor, who had a boy, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi with wife Kareena Kapoor Khan on Tuesday, says it’s a great time to become a dad.

“I feel 40-45 is a good age. On my 40th birthday, my father (Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi) wrote me a note, ‘The secret of Islam was revealed to the Prophet on his 40th birthday.’ I think what he meant was that this is the age when you get sorted. So, it’s a great time to have a kid,” said the 46-year-old in an interview on Friday. “I don’t feel, ‘oh, it’s an added responsibility.’ Instead, I am like, ‘I want to.’”

Since he already has kids (Sara, 23 and Ibrahim, 15 with actor Amrita Singh), will he be a hands-on father?

“There’s a saying ‘you never step your foot in the same river twice’ because it’s always moving. Even we (as people) are like that. I know exactly how life will change (after the baby), and I am ready. So, yes, late nights will happen but in control (smiles). I am looking forward to that (fatherhood).”

At the same time, Saif feels that it’s “a good expression of who we (Kareena and he) are”. “A part of it is going to be our baby now. I want to bring up another child to teach and have our thoughts. You always like to pass on things (to the next generation). Otherwise, that’s what life is all about — a creative job, friends, hopefully a familyily and to pass something on,” he says.

“These are important things in every possible way. Otherwise, what’s Pataudi (Palace) for — it’s some continuity ( of family values),” he adds.
