The Indian Academy Awards were launched amid fanfare on December 21 at the US Consulate in Mumbai. Unveiling the Golden Knight trophy, actor Shah Rukh Khan said, “I’m happy to associate with the first of its kind Indian Academy Awards. It’s an amalgamation of everything a cinema lover could hope for. This academy invites everyone to be part of a movement that will redefine the entertainment world.”

A brainchild of Vandana Krishna and Saurabh Pandey, IAA will bring together stars and industry veterans from Hollywood, Bollywood and Tollywood. “The Indian film industry is going global and the award is a celebration of that global, democratic academy that is transparent and all encompassing. Our aim is to bring realism and credibility to cinema awards. This is an academy that never sleeps,” Pandey said.

The academy will invite a global audience to be part of the jury through registration. The two-day celebration will start off with a fashion show and a musical extravaganza. The grand finale will be hosted at the Oracle Arena in Silicon Valley in California and telecast worldwide.

US Consul General, Tom Vajda said, “We are pleased to support the collaboration between the American and Indian film industries. California is a perfect destination to showcase it.” Vote for your favourites on www.indianacademeyaward.com, and follow them on Twitter @iacademyawards or on their Facebook page, Indian Academy Awards.
