Hollywood celebs mourn Carrie Fisher’s death

-

Celebs and colleagues expressed shock and grief as American actor Carrie Fisher died of heart failure on Tuesday, aged 60. Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, was in the ICU since suffering a heart attack mid-flight on December 24.

“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a colourful personality that everyone loved. In Star Wars, she was our great and powerful princess — feisty, wise and full of hope — in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. ... She’ll be missed by all,” said George Lucas, creator of the film franchise. Co-actor Harrison Ford said, “Carrie was one-ofa-kind ... brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely ... My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends.”

Co-star Mark Hamill called it a “downright heartbreaking” moment. “It’s never easy to lose such a vital, irreplaceable member of the family... Carrie was one-of-akind who belonged to us all.”

Actor and writer Tina Fey said Fisher meant a lot to her. “Like many women my age, Princess Leia occupies about sixty percent of my brain at any given time. But Carrie’s honest writing and razor-sharp wit were a greater gift. I feel lucky that I got to meet her. I’m very sad she is gone.”

Many dedicated messages to Fisher on social media. “I’m deeply saddened... I will miss our banterings. A wonderful talent & light has been extinguished,” wrote actor William Shatner. “She loved to give one the oddest and most randomly silly presents. She was the brightest, funniest, bravest, kindest, cleverest and sweetest person I ever knew. A crushing blow to lose @carrieffisher,” wrote actor- comedian Stephen Fry.
