Hrithik’s father, Rakesh Roshan had expressed his displeasur­e at the makers of Raees for releasing their film on the same day as Hrithik’s. In a tweet to Khan, Roshan wrote, “Dear @iamsrk today as a mentor Im sure u will inspire me yet again with #Raaes and as a student I hope you are proud of me with #Kaabil.” In response to this tweet, Khan replied, “@ iHrithik wish could have avoided overlap of releases. That said…my love to u... Kaabil wil b awesome (sic).”

Recently, actor Harshvardh­an Kapoor, sent out a series of tweets against actor Diljit Dosanjh for winning the best debutant award in Udta Punjab. Kapoor thought he deserved it for his debut, Mirzya. But he later apologised on Twitter and wrote: “Love you sir, have lots of respect for you and your body of work sorry if I said anything that came out wrong @diljitdosa­njh.”

There is a sudden increase in the number of instances where filmmakers are being harassed by political groups. Most of these groups claim they are offended by things being shown in the film. However, director Shoojit Sircar, who is known to have made films based on political issues like Madras Cafe or Yahaan, says directors have to be “brave”. “It is becoming difficult, but you have to be brave. We are no outsiders. We are citizens of this country. We are of the same mitti. You can’t be more patriotic than me,” Shoojit says.

The National award winning director adds, “This is democratic India, you have every right to protest, but I have every right to make a film.”
