The Dark Horse rears up at the HT Kala Ghoda Arts Festival
The ninth edition of the Hindustan Times Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2017 (HTKGAF) witnessed an exhibition of creativity from the students of Pearl Academy — an institution for design, fashion and creative business. The theme of their art installation, The Dark Horse Resurrects, resonated well with the theme of the festival.
The festival was an opportunity for people to reconnect with the cultural history of Mumbai. Ruchita Verma, campus director, Pearl Academy, Mumbai, says, “The installation was a visual metaphor that beautifully captured the essence of personal drive, passion and an appetite for freedom. It was an eloquent statement of our ability to express freely and assertively in social environments such as work or school, or among family and friends. The horse in the installation was a depiction and expression of youthful energy and exuberance. The framework, which was created with yarn, depicts a visual rendition of the layers of connections between life and nature.”
The installation invited much praise and accolades from visitors, who appreciated it for its intricacy and details. “I have been visiting this festival for two years now and the Pearl Academy installation has always been an attraction for me. This year also, they have done an amazing job. I am impressed with their innovative depiction of the theme, said Kanchan Todi, a visitor at the festival.
Verma, says, “This is the third year that our students have been setting up an installation at HTKGAF. They have always surprised us with their ingenuity and creativity. It is our endeavour to give them the best exposure through opportunities such as live industry projects and prestigious events including HTKGAF. We are happy to see the energy that our students and faculty have shown and that their creativity is finding such a great expression at events like HTKGAF.”
