Gaurav Balani (right) is the bassist for Parikrama, one of the biggest English rock bands in India, but the Delhi based musician says that he yearns to play his own music. “I love composing and playing original music on stage. Unfortunately, I don’t get to perform them,” he says.

In the last six months, Gaurav has collaborated with different musicians and so far, has released two singles, Illuminate Feat. Ujwal Nagar and Bonzo Feat. Julie Hill. “All the artists that I’ve collaborated with have been people who’ve inspired me. I have a long list of people with whom I want to work with. Solo music is the medium through which I perform my own songs and it’s important to me,” says Gaurav.

Having released both the singles on the internet, Gaurav feels the medium is a boon for independent artists, who don’t have the luxury of being backed by big record labels. “It’s an important medium. The internet now connects artists with the world wide audience. It’s easier to reach out to fans that help independent artists gain popularity,” he says.

However, the singer does believe that internet has become a bit chaotic. “With the advent of internet, everyone has a medium to release their music. But, in the end, talent and creativity always receives appreciation. Anyone has the right to put out their content, but the ones who sustain themselves and build an audience are the ones who have a bona fide intent,” he says.
