A daughter’s gift of youth to her mother

On Mother’s Day we think of various gifts to give our moms, but aesthetic plastic surgeon Dr Monisha Kapoor (left), planned a special gift for her mother. “I gifted her, her youth back,” says Kapoor, who decided to do a liposuction and facelift on her mom. Speaking about why she decided this, she says, “After I became an aesthetic plastic surgeon my mother came to me complaining that her face and eyes look saggy and how much weight she has put on. Looking at her, I remembered all those years she has given to us. She was always there, without thinking of herself. Each wrinkle on her face reminded me of the hardships she has seen in her life, and that was the day I decided to erase everything from her face and body so that she starts fresh.”

Her mother (seen in the pictures) didn’t question her decision either and went through the procedures with immense love and trust in her daughter’s abilities. “This is the bond between a daughter and a mother — you do not fear anything and you can keep your life in each other’s hand without any fear. Lot of people ask me, ‘weren’t you scared of operating on your own mother’, but the joy that the procedure would give her, far outweighed the fear of operating on her.” After the surgery, she stayed with Dr. Kapoor. “Her presence gave me an insight of what my patients go through when I do procedures on them and that made me more empathetic towards them. After the makeover, the results were not only physical, she was more confident. She dressed up much better than before, and that I could bring back her interest in herself, was one of the best gifts I could give her.”
