As Charles Bowden rightly said, “Summertime is always the best of what might be.” It sure is the time to celebrate, if you’re one of those who reminisce about the sweet summer vacation — gorging on chuski, playing frisbee and finding solace even in the scorching summer.

This year, through the Mother Diary Summer of Happiness, we will keep your spirits high with chilled refreshing dairy product recipes and tips on how to live a healthy and summer happy. And, what better day to start this than Mother’s Day, as this will help moms and kids plan a happy, healthy summer vacay.

Speaking about the initiative, Randhir Kumar ,DGM– marketing, Dairy Products, says, “Summer is a good time for families to get together and enjoy. It’s holiday time – people travel, friends catch up. We love seeing kids running around, people — young and old — taking up new hobbies. Through our Summer of Happiness initiative, we want to reach out and strengthen our emotional connect with our consumers. With our healthy range of dairy products, they can eat healthy, stay cool and enjoy life to the fullest.”

Indeed, eating healthy in summer is crucial. And an ideal superfood is curd — something that must be added to your family’s diet. Imagine delicious scoops of thick curd that will not only keep the heat away but will also keep the gut happy. Nutristionist and author Kavita Devgan says, “In summer, we must eat foods that are easily digestible. We shouldn’t tax our intestine because our body is already stressed. Curd is possibly the most easily digestible foods of all. It has good bacteria that helps kill the bad bacteria in our body. A bowl of curd everyday helps maintain that balance. It is so versatile that it can be had in any form. It’s a superfood that one must include in their summer diet. Additionally, probotic curd has particular potent bacteria that are proven to be good.”

Well, there’s a reason our moms and grandmoms insisted that we grab some curd with our meals – it contains calcium, phosphorus and B-vitamins; with the calcium and phosphorus content of curd being more easily assimilated. A versatile food, curd can be used across a variety of Indian curries, as well as eaten after food to aid digestion.

“Curd is a food that even lactose intolerant people can have. It has calcium that helps nullifying the acidity. It also boosts immunity. Additionally, when applied topically, curd also helps in de-tanning. It’s also a great conditioner for your skin. Mix some curd with raw tomato, and apply on the skin to treat sun-burns. Curd also soothes the skin. It’s a natural healer for the body as well as helps you keep your gut healthy,” says clinical nutritionist Tripti Tandon.
