DEEPIKA KILLS IT AT CANNES

In her second outing at the Cannes Film Festival (the first was in 2010), actor Deepika Padukone (left) went for a plum-hued dress by the label Marchesa and she decided to romance risqué in sheer tulle.

The label has, in the past, been favoured by many Indian celebs. Its co-founder, Georgina Chapman, on a visit to Mumbai in April, met some Bollywood stars.

Celebrity stylist Elizabeth Saltzman is behind Deepika’s look — they settled on this dress when Deepika was at the Met Gala, in New York, this month.

While world media were mostly mum on Deepika, back home, she created a buzz among designers.

“Love her look, and she looks relaxed in the dress, which is most important,” says Ritu Beri. And Rina Dhaka feels, “The sheer, fluid style is so ‘now.’” She adds that a softer blush tone would have worked even better.

“She is a rage! Put her in a rag and she’d still look like a million bucks. But [her] makeup was underwhelming,” says Anand Bhushan. For Suneet Varma, the colour wasn’t a winner but “the sheer and leg show is sexy.”

It seems like pink satin gowns were setting trends at the red carpet. Bella Hadid was seen in a Alexandre Vauthier. However, the thigh-high slit gown caused her a wardrobe malfunction. Side-parted hair with soft curls and an emerald neckpiece completed her look. Hadid’s gown was very similar to that of Emily Ratajkowski who wore Twin Set by Simona Barbieri. Even Elle Fanning was seen in an off-shoulder gown by designer Vivienne Westwood.
