Dad Kamal Haasan glad that Shruti met her ‘other hero’ Neil Gaiman at Cannes

-

Actor Shruti Haasan is a fan of British novelist Neil Gaiman. At the ongoing 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival in France — where Shruti is promoting her upcoming trilingual historic film — the actor met Gaiman, and sealed the memory in a photograph.

The 31-year-old attended the premiere of How to Talk to Girls at Parties, adapted from Gaiman’s short story. The film features Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman, and is directed by John Cameron Mitchell.

Shruti’s father, veteran actor Kamal Haasan, is glad that his daughter met the author, who he describes as Shruti’s “other hero.”

“My baby in Cannes with her other hero. Neil Gaiman. Glad to be in august company,” he tweeted recently, along with the picture of Shruti with Gaiman.

In the past, the author had expressed interest to write a Bollywood musical, provided it stars Shruti. According to a source close to the latter, “Neil Gaiman has been one of Shruti’s all-time favourite novelists. She has followed his work extensively and they had a chance to connect a short while ago over Twitter. They met in Los Angeles, US, and stayed in touch via mails and messages. When Neil realised that Shruti was in Cannes, he invited her for the premiere of the film as one of his special guests. Shruti was delighted to be a part of his celebration.”

This is Shruti’s maiden Cannes appearance.
