‘BEING A FULLTIME MOM IS A THANKLESS JOB’
Actor Shilpa Shetty talks about how being a homemaker is a full-time job where one is underpaid and overworked
Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who has a fiveyear-old son, Viaan, feels she is fortunate enough to continue working after motherhood. The 41-year-old actor, who owns a production house, says that at least you get to take breaks during your job while it’s a different ball game altogether when it comes to being a stay-at-home mom. “I totally respect the fact that if you are a homemaker, it’s even more than a full-time job. There (in job) you have breaks and you can switch-off. Here it’s a thankless job. You are underpaid and overworked,” she says.
Shilpa adds, “I respect women who are dedicatedly looking after their families. Some of us have the luxury to go out and work. Some of us don’t need to do that. For me, [my] family is a priority.”
Shipla also believes that days when women were considered inferior to men are gone. “Women are doing everything and anything. I can even go to the extent of saying that they are doing it better than men. There isn’t anything that we are not capable of doing. We are multi-faceted personalities and are able to multi-task much better than men. We look after our family. We take care of our in laws, children, our husbands, which is a fulltime job in itself... and plus we bring home the bread,” she says. The actor adds that she makes sure to engage her son, Viaan, in extra curricular activities. “These days play dates have become a new way to entertain children. I don’t know how our parents did it. I do my best to keep Viaan occupied in extra curricular activities. There is a teacher who comes home for gymnastics, he loves that. He doesn’t need that many play dates,” she says.
