‘Unfair to compare Alia, Shaheen with their father’

Razdan (left) feels that it’s unfair to burden star kids with expectations. Talking about how people expect her daughters, actor Alia Bhatt (24) and Shaheen Bhatt (29), to shine just because they have a famous father, Mahesh Bhatt, Soni says it puts unnecessary pressure on the two and adds that both she and her husband have always told them to find their true calling.

“It’s tough for a child to deal with expectations that people have, if they have successful parents. A child often fails to cope with the same, and constantly tries to find out possible ways to excel — just to live up to the name. Alia and Shaheen have a smart father and have got good genes. But it’s not fair that people expect them to do as well as their father did. Everyone is different and each has to create his or her own path, irrespective of who their parents are,” says Soni, who has acted in films such as Saaransh (1984), Sadak (1991), and Patiala House (2011).

Soni says, “With the kind of work she is doing, Alia has become independent in her own way.” She feels that it’s Shaheen, who has to deal with the maximum pressure. “Compared to Alia, it’s little more difficult for Shaheen, as she has a famous father and a famous sibling too. So, I always tell my daughters to not to pay much heed to these expectations and give more importance to their dreams,” adds Soni.
