It seems to be a comeback season on the big screen for female actors. While Sridevi will be seen playing a protagonist in Ravi Udyawa’s Mom, Tabu has finished shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 4.Raveena Tandon, who was last seen in the film Maatr, will be part of a film titled Shab. After Dear Maya, where Manisha Koirala played the lead role. She is now busy with the biopic on Sanjay Dutt that will see her reprising actor Nargis’ character.

Filmmaker Sunaina Bhatnagar, who directed Manisha in Dear Maya, says, “They are known for powerful performances they had delivered in the past. The audiences look forward to see them on screen again. Going by their age, earlier only roles of mother were offered to them but now they are offered character driven parts.”

Agreeing with Sunaina, actor Raveena Tandon says, “It’s a good time for women in Indian cinema. Today, women get equal opportunities like their male counterparts.”

Film critic Komal Nahta, opines that there is no doubt that the audience has a soft corner for actors who were popular a decade ago and adds, “There is a level of interest for such actors given their popularity, but that doesn’t help the film to be successful. The content of the film and how well it is promoted makes a difference. So films like Manisha’s Dear Maya or Madhuri Dixit’s Dedh Ishqiya and Aaja Nachle didn’t do well. But Sridevi’s Mom may score well given the buzz created around the film,” he says. Reportedly, Preity Zinta’s Bhaiyyaji Superhitt might release towards end of the year. Even Juhi Chawla is in talks for her next film.
