Adnan Sami to let his music deal with trolls

Adnan Sami cherishes becoming an Indian citizen in 2016, but the singer of Pakistani origin says that the time taken in completing the formalities kept him away from music.

Since the release of his last independent album in 2013, the 45-year-old has sung seven songs in Bollywood — the latest being Bhar Do Jholi Meri for Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).

“The citizenship process was a long one with many formalities. So, I couldn’t have given much time to music,” says Sami. And after he was declared an Indian, it was the birth of the musician’s daughter that kept him busy.

“My wife Roya was pregnant with Medina. So I was with [spending time with] her, and now I’m enjoying being a father,” he says assuring that he’s not going away from the music scene. “You’ll see something new from me very soon!”

After acquiring Indian citizenship, the singer was subjected to trolls and abuse on Twitter by users from Pakistan. Sami says his upcoming music will reflect what he went through.

“Apart from being a playback singer for films, I’m also an independent musician. I’ll talk about the episode... when I was ridiculed on Twitter for something that I wanted to do, and was my decision. Music reflects an artist’s feelings and their experiences. So, my upcoming music will talk about that time,” says Sami.
