Choose mad over mundane

Is eccentric the way to describe you and your home? If you are all about being mad rather than mundane, you subscribe to the exclusive world of kitsch

-

Kitsch is niche. It’s surely a style not meant for everybody. So how would you know whether you are cut out for kitsch home décor. To be or not to be, that is really the question. If you tick all the boxes below or at least most of them, then you are a subscriber of this unconventional school of design aesthetics.

The expression ‘neutral colour palette’ makes you pull a face. Muted shades make your eyes skip past but you are instantly drawn to bright yellows and hot pinks. You look forward to a riot of juicy colour, and curios bursting with childlike playfulness.

You don’t do subtle stuff and like to go bold with sizes, patterns, motifs and everything. This could mean a penchant for playful souvenirs such as vintage cartoon characters with oversized eyes, a funny take on royal memorabilia or a pair of inflatable monkeys- all this switches you on. The more outlandish the thing, and the quirkier it gets the better you feel. If your souvenirs are fluorescent, have flashing lights or a button you can press to make it speak, so much the better!

Animal figurines are high on your list. You love a flamingo wallpaper or a bear sculpture in the hallway.

You are not interested in pleasing others and would rather please yourself.

You know your mind and do not fear experimenting. You are confident of your choices and you couldn’t care less if your choices aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Your home is popular amongst people as the décor doesn’t take itself too seriously and collections have a sense of humour.

DO NEUTRAL COLOURS MAKE YOU PULL A FACE? DOES BOLD EXCITE YOU OVER SUBTLE? ARE YOU CONFIDENT OF YOUR CHOICES AND COULDN’T CARE LESS IF THEY AREN’T WELL ACCEPTED?
