Fanny packs are back, and are more dapper than dowdy. And this is all thanks to the hottest trend, Gorpcore — a phrase devised by THE CUT (magazine), meaning fashion influenced by outdoors.
Fanny packs have managed to off-and-on pop up in the markets, with different names such as belly bag, hip pack, bum bag, buffalo pouch and belt pack.
Still not sure about the style? You should know that international celebs such as Kendall Jenner, Sarah Jessica Parker and Beyonce have jumped on the bandwagon. Luxury fashion brands such as Alexander Wang, Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuittion are reanalysing fanny packs in their own way. And guess what? Guys have been seen sporting them, too. That version is called Manny Pack.
What do Indian fashion designers have to say about the style? “Fanny backpacks are one of the coolest trends in the past few seasons. It’s no longer just a utility accessory. The backpack has had a serious facelift, making it one of the most coveted fashion accessories in current times. Small as well as large backpacks make the style apt for casual evenings as well as for day purposes,” says Nida Mahmood.
You can sport one around the waist in the front, back, side or across your chest. “This utility trend is submerging the pressure of carrying the ‘it bag’’, says Rina Dhaka. Fashion stylist Prayag Menon praises the fact that these bags have a good capacity to store daily essentials. “It is functionality and style together.”
