‘I’M A FAN OF SALMAN’S ROLES’
Actor Aamir Khan doesn’t compare his work to any of the superstars; says that creative work is unpredictable
Actor Aamir Khan (above) is well-known for his quality cinema. He has always left the audience awestruck with hard-hitting films such as Rang De Basanti (2006), PK (2014) and Dangal (2016). Though his films usually have high-grossing box-office collections, he is always compared to actors Shah Rukh Khan (right) and Salman Khan (far right). Does Aamir consider them as competition anymore?
“I think Salman and Shah Rukh both are huge stars and I am a fan of their roles. I don’t really compare like this. Each one is unique and different,” says Aamir.
Asked whether he wishes for stardom like that, he answers,“I am very happy in the space that I am in. I think that I have a very warm relationship with my audience and it’s something that I have built over the years. There aren’t many people who can say that they have the freedom to work on something that they love.”
Considering SRK’s films and Salman’s recent Tubelight haven’t been climbing the blockbuster charts, does he feel that is the only bankable star among the three, given the success of Dangal? Aamir diplomatically replies, “Creative work is unpredictable. All of us try our best. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. I don’t think because of one or two films, anyone’s stardom will be affected.”
Aamir Khan will next be seen in the film Secret Superstar. The film revolves around a teenager who dreams of becoming a famous singer. “Both Dangal and this film are based on the same topic... That we look differently at our daughters. And probably we aren’t able to give the same treatment to our daughters as our sons. So this is another film based on empowerment of the girl child,” says Aamir.
