‘I don’t want to isolate my daughter from public eye’
Birthdays are special. But as singer-composer Adnan Sami turns a year older today, he says that nothing can be more special than the gift of fatherhood. The 46-year-old welcomed daughter Medina in May this year, and is excited about his first birthday as a dad who is in awe of his three-month-old princess.
“She has lit up my life. I look at her in the middle of the night and feel that I’ve been blessed with the greatest joy I could’ve imagined. It’s an incredible feeling to see her smile or to carry her [in my arms],” says Adnan. He adds that Medina is the apple of everyone’s eye in the family. “She is the first daughter in our family. I have no sisters, so everyone is overwhelmed by her presence.”
Enjoying every bit of being a dad, Adnan shares how he loves shopping for Medina. “I’ve become an expert in buying clothes for her. I’ve also been going crazy buying new accessories. So, I bought this T-shirt for her that reads, ‘I’m not allowed to date... ever’,” he laughs.
Like several other celeb parents, the singer has no inhibitions posting his little one’s adorable pictures on social media and sharing her life’s updates. Is such public exposure good for these star toddlers? Adnan calls it a part and parcel of a celeb’s life. “I’m in a profession which is public, so exposure comes along with it. But I’d teach my daughter that regardless of her star kid status, she should have her feet on the ground and be humble about it.”
He adds that isolating kids from public glare now will make it difficult for them to embrace it at a later stage. “I’d want my daughter to be at home with the reality of public life so that she doesn’t find it difficult to accept it the day she discovers it. At the same time, I want her to be aware about the fact that nothing in should be taken for granted and she should respect every bit of it,” says Adnan.
