It’s (the film industry) like family; at least I have felt that since I began. Everyone kind of adopted me and took care of me KAJOL, ACTOR

Her last Tamil outing was with Minsara Kanavu (1997). Now, after two decades, Kajol has made a comeback to Tamil cinema with Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 (VIP 2). The thespian, who shares the screen with Raanjhanaa (2013) actor Dhanush in the film, says, “Honestly, I didn’t want to do a Tamil film at all. But when I was narrated the script, I really liked it. After they [the makers] insisted, I decided to try it. I’ve been so caught up with doing safe films for a while; so I thought, ‘Okay, I don’t mind taking that risk now.’ It took me a day or a two to get used to the language, because every language has its own rhythm.”

Kajol says that unlike others, she is not someone who is very ambitious, and that “her ambitions lie in different directions”. “I did a film because I was bored. Then I found out I was good at it, and went on to do another one because I liked it. It didn’t feel like work to me, and I enjoyed the process. I liked the people I was working with. The film industry has some of the most amazing people, who never look at you differently. It’s like family; at least I have felt that since I began. Everyone kind of adopted me and took care of me and made sure I was okay. And I felt that for each of my films,” says the Dilwale (2015) actor, adding “My mother (actor Tanuja) has always told me there is never up or down, so I’d have food with everybody. I felt everyone has loved me and treated me in the same way.”
