‘I CAN’T DO WITHOUT MUSIC’
Leading a music band along with acting in the mainstream Bollywood films was unheard of till actor Ayushmann Khurrana set-up his band Ayushmann Bhava, about two years back. And even in a packed schedule, the actor has managed to strike a perfect balance between the two.
“If you have passion for anything, you don’t need to take out time for it. You automatically get time for it. It’s a default setting. It’s like love. Music is my love. I can’t do without it. Also, it gives me a break from acting,” says Ayushmann, who is basking in the glory of his recent films — Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.
Effortlessly dabbling between his back-to-back films, Ayushmann says he is now preparing an unplugged set, for the Mahindra Open Sky festival — scheduled for November 24-26 near Jodhpur.
“We will be performing in the desert, and to add that feeling of rootedness to the performance, a flutist is joining my band. I’m mixing my latest hit Nazm Nazm from Bareilly Ki Barfi with Yellow by Coldplay and Kanha, the semi-classical number from Shubh Mangal Saavdhan that will be presented in an alternative rock form,” says the actor.
In between the excited talk of music, ask about plans for his birthday on September 14, and the father of two, replies smilingly, “Life has been quite a roller coaster with two back to back films, so I want to take it easy.” And who sings the birthday song for him? “My kids would love to sing happy birthday song for me!”
Childhood memories strike him, and he adds, “During my childhood, birthdays were more about family dinners. I used to call my school friends to a popular joint in Chandigarh called Hot Millions in Sector 17.”
