‘I wish to be out of my comfort zone’

Be it Vicky Donor (2012), Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), or his recent backto-back hits — Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Ayushmann Khurrana has been lapped up by audiences in his guy-nextdoor avatars. But the actor is happy that his next film (directed by Sriram Raghavan) belongs to an “entirely different genre”.

Stating that he’d love for directors to “take out something entirely radical” from him, Ayushmann says that he’s “glad that Sriram’s film is happening”, because it will “definitely make people see me in a different light”.

The actor adds, “I’d love to work with directors from diverse genres and challenge myself as an actor. I really wish that directors make me get out of my comfort zone.

“I’d love to do an out-andout urban film such as Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), because I am an urban guy. Whatever parts I’ve played till now aren’t me, as I am not such a desi guy (smiles). I, in fact, started out as a VJ for a music channel, who was a completely urban guy. I still haven’t done a film that explores my urban side.”

Thanks to his hits, does he think his journey will be easier now? “Nothing is easy,” Ayushmann replies. “But I’m glad that I got such great options to choose from. Everybody is talented in this industry, so ultimately, it boils down to the choices.”
