The couple shares what they like and dislike about each other
Director couple Gauri Shinde and R Balki saw two films on the trot, on their first date, after Gauri had ignored Balki for the longest time. Both share an undying love for pets, and make films that peek into the everyday lives of ordinary people. But what is Balki and Gauri Shinde’s marriage, actually, like? In an intimate chat with the couple, who has been married since 2007, we decode their wonderful relationship. Gauri Shinde (GS): We didn’t have a proper meeting. We were both working in the same office and met in the lift. I didn’t have anything on mind other than work. R Balki (RB): I don’t know about her, but I found her quite interesting. GS: When he started pursuing, I thought about it. RB: But I didn’t have to pursue much (laughs). GS: I get bored if I take time to get ready. But yes, he takes longer in the bathroom. RB: I don’t think either of us takes too much time. GS: He eats too fast, so there is no time to talk. I ask him to chew while eating. We discuss office, day-to-day things and travel plans. RB: But 10 minutes for me is slow. (Both laugh out loud) How to eat is our favourite topic of discussion. We also talk about how badly we are living our lives. We discuss creative things on the couch. GS: I have a list. I ask him to eat a little slower. RB: We all dislike certain qualities about others but one doesn’t have to say that. GS: Our common enthusiasm that for travel and filmmaking. RB: She’s a social person, while I live in a fantasy world. And she is sensitive too.
