Wanted to try new challenges: Janak

- Sneha Mahadevan

Youth centric comedy film, Call For Fun, is up for release on October 6. We caught up with the director and producer of the film, Janak Toprani and co-producer Hardik Patel, to get more insights into the film.

What made you take up films after being involved with theatre for so long?

Janak: I always wanted to do films but I come from a middle-class background and education was important. In spite of being from a Gujarati medium school, I made a decent living out of English theatre and my productions got critical acclaim. However, I wanted to try new challenges.

Why did you choose this title and subject for your directorial debut?

Janak: I received an SMS which said, ‘Are you lonely? For fun, talk to Rangili Riya!’ and then idea was born. This subject uses humour and yet delivers a message for today’s youth whose lives revolve around a phone.

What merit did you see in this film that you decided to back the project?

Hardik: When I read the script, I was excited because the concept of a call line has never been explored in cinema with a mix of situational comedy and a message.

How is your film different from other films?

Janak: It is original in this era of borrowed content. It is based on the quirks of the millennials. Yet, it makes you question yourself once you walk out of the theatre.

What are you planning next?

Hardik: We have interesting movies lined up. First, we have a courtroom drama and then we have a comedy.
