Bollywood pays tribute to Tom Alter

On the demise of theatre personalit­y Tom Alter, eminent personalit­ies pay their respects

Veteran theatre and film actor Tom Alter died in Mumbai at the age of 67, after battling skin cancer for years. Following the sad news, many actors paid their respects to the Padma Shri recipient on Twitter. “An all rounder is what he was, with a heart of gold. Back in the day, I even studied acting under him. You will be missed dearly #TomAlter,” Anil Kapoor wrote. Arjun Kapoor recalled his childhood memories of watching Alter on the hit TV show, Zabaan Sambhalke. “RIP Tom Alter... have the fondest childhood memories of seeing him on zabaan sambhal ke...” he wrote. “RIP. My friend and colleague Tom Alter. Bless you!," Rishi Kapoor captioned a photo of Alter on Twitter. Nimrat Kaur remembered him as a “thorough gentleman”, and tweeted: “Waking up to some tragic news about the passing away of Mr. Tom Alter. A one of a kind, grace personifie­d, thorough gentleman. #RIPTomAlte­r.” “May you rest in peace tom sir!! condolence­s to his near and dear ones,” Manoj Bajpayee wrote.

The news of actor and theatre personalit­y Tom Alter’s death on Friday night due to skin cancer, left many saddened in the Capital’s theatre circuit. The actor, a theatre regular in Delhi had worked in various plays, some of which included Maulana and Ghalib.

The 67-year-old who was born in Mussoorie, was of American descent. He worked in Bollywood films. Here, we talk to eminent personalit­ies who’ve worked with him or known him personally.
