PSince Prime Minister [Narendra] Modi has been travelling extensively, I have given him the form of a bird who is working tirelessly for the betterment of our country,” says artist Neeta Seth.

Seth is a Delhi-based homemaker who hasn’t received any formal training in painting. “I was passionate about arts since my childhood, and started painting on canvas since class 12. Much later, I pursued a short course (of six months) in claymodelling.”

But, like it usually happens in the life of women in India, Seth gave up her passion, to take care of her family. “After I got married, my art took a back seat and family life became my priority. I yearned to return to art but it was only 48 years later that I could recreate something on canvas,” adds the 72-year-old.

Once the sabbatical ended, and she decided to go back to her love for painting, it was nature that lured her. “About three years ago, I started painting again, and since then nature has been a dominant theme in all my works. I paint birds and flowers. I want to specialise in painting orchids. I even research about unique and exotic flowers, which don’t exist now, and create them on my canvases,” says Seth.

Her reason to comeback into this creative field is quite humanitarian. “I want to use my art to give back to the society. I want to exhibit my work, and donate all the proceeds from it to support the education and healthcare of people who cannot afford it.”
