‘TROLLS’ ONLY JOB IS TO BODY SHAME ACTORS’

MUSIC Bhumi Pednekar talks about the power of social media, nasty comments and ways to deal with them

Actor Bhumi Pednekar made her acting debut in Bollywood just three years back. But she has seen it all. From putting on 27 kgs for her character in Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) to having two back-to-back box office success stories with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Bhumi is at the top of her game.

Though Bhumi has rarely given a chance to anyone to point a finger at her body of work, she has been subjected to trolls on social media quite a few times.

Bhumi, whose ‘before and after’ weight loss photos have often been made fun of, says, “The good part about it (social media) is that people are speaking about different things and starting a lot of conversations.”

Pointing at the flip side of it, she says these days trolls have got a job, which is to body shame actors and slam them out of sheer pleasure. “There are so many people who have so much free time that they would rather love to draw circles around different body parts of actors and zoom into them.”

She adds, “Thankfully, for the longest time, I wasn’t subjected to harsh trolling yet because maybe I had done only one film and it was such a character and a film that protected me and really sheltered me, and people didn’t have much to say to put me down.”

Asked what if she faces such incidents now?

She says, “I don’t read through negative comments. I don’t see what others are saying about me.”
