I am being singled out: Onir on TV ban for Shab

After stepping into Bollywood in 2008 alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, to producing films, and now owning a clothing line, actor Anushka Sharma has been on a roll. She says she has more ambitions to fulfil and hopes to develop her business ventures fiercely.

Anushka ventured into film production in 2014, and earlier this month, she launched her clothing line.

“I feel happy with what I have achieved so far, but I have miles to go, and more ambitions. I hope to develop my entrepreneurial ventures further,” Anushka responded, when asked about her career graph.

“I want to continue working in roles and films that entertain, engage, and are viewed in posterity as creatively qualitative. I haven’t achieved it all, there’s more to do in the years to come,” added the actor, whose first modelling assignment was for designer Wendell Rodricks, in 2007.

The NH10 actor, who has worked with Bollywood’s top three Khans — Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir — says rather than looking back at her journey and contemplate, she prefers to use the learning to do better.

“I prefer to learn and acquire understanding from my years in the film industry. Experience teaches you patience, consistency and persistence. I hope these will always define my work,” the 29-year-old said.

On what has been more daunting — being an actor, producer or an entrepreneur, Anushka says, “None of it is daunting, all of it is very enjoyable and exciting. I love doing all of it, and wish there

Filmmaker Onir’s film Shab has not been given a clean chit from Central Board of Film Certification, for its television premiere, and the director is visibly unhappy.

“I am really disappointed. The film is about how five people make changes to their life to make it better. I told the CBFC that I was ready to make further cuts, but I wasn’t given a chance. Then comes a film like Judwaa 2 where it is okay to casually was time to do even more,” she said.

Anushka’s next film is called Pari, and she says the role was challenging.

“Let’s just say the role challenged me and the film will hold up what we aim to do — tell solid, engaging stories,” she added.

She will also be seen with actor Varun Dhawan in the upcoming film Sui Dhaaga — Made in India, touted as a story of self-reliance.

“It’s very early to talk about Sui Dhaaga, but I am excited about the film, and look forward to shooting it,” she signs off. slap a woman’s back, and in a country with a high molestation rate,” says Onir.

Shab, starring Raveena Tandon, Arpita Chatterjee and Sanjay Suri, deals with homosexuality and extra marital affairs.

“It’s not about the person who is on the CBFC chair. We always target a person but what is not used is The Cinematograph Act, which talked about what should or should not be done to films. They argue that kids watch my film but when a 10-yearold kid is watching my film, he is also watching the news about a young child getting molested,” says the National Award-winning filmmaker.

In the past, Onir’s films such as I Am, My Brother Nikhil and Sorry Bhai! have raised eyebrows.

“My Brother Nikhil and I Am, which dealt with similar issues, are being telecast. There are other films which show more than what my film is showing. Shab is nothing like that. I don’t know why I am being singled out,” he says.
