BOLLYWOOD HOLLYWOOD TELEVISION ‘TRANSITION TO HOLLYWOOD WAS TOUGH, SCARY’ MUSIC

-

Ana de Armas, who started her journey in showbiz from Cuba and Spain, is now gradually finding her way into Hollywood. The actor says navigating an industry in a different country is not easy.

“It [the transition into Hollywood] has been tough, you have to sacrifice a lot of things, you have to leave people and family behind. It is hard to connect with people [here] because you are always moving and it is hard to keep [even] a relationship,” Armas said.

She describes the transition as “scary”, because it is hard to be sure that movies will keep coming her way. But she feels it is “empowering” too. “It is very empowering, exciting and aspiring when you see that, step by step, you are doing things and working with great people.”

The Cuba-born actor found passion towards acting at a young age, and enrolled for formal training. Soon after, work started pouring in.

Armas was successful in Spain when she decided to explore a new territory, and, in 2014, she moved to Los Angeles. Though she’s worked in several hollywood films, including Knock Knock (2015), War Dogs (2016) and Hands of Stone (2016), among others, her role as Joi in Harrison Ford and Ryan Goslingstarrer Blade Runner 2049 is being touted as her big ticket in the West.

Talking about the upcoming film, Armas said, “I remember very well when I got a call from the casting directors and the producers, the moment of joy in my heart was so high and strong that I will never forget it.”

The 29-year-old actor is happy with the way her career is shaping up. “I am really enjoying Los Angeles,” she said.
