Web series Tripling and Permanent roommates have helped actor Sumeet Vyas to get noticed in the film industry. Thanks to them, he bagged films with A-list Bollywood actors. In the upcoming film Veere Di Wedding (VDW), he is paired with actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, and in the recently released film Ribbon, actor Kalki Koechlin is his costar.

“There’s a lot to thank the two web series for. I have definitely benefitted from them. People in the industry have started recognising me. Earlier, they wouldn’t cast me as a protagonist, or in an important role, but things have changed for the better,” says Vyas, before adding, “People have realised that there are actors, like us, who can’t probably do somersaults or martial arts like some of the biggest stars in the industry, but they can deliver good performances”.

The 34-year-old actor is happy that both his aforementioned films are different in terms of character and plot. “VDW is a typical ensemble, a family movie. Ribbon is slightly more intimate, in the sense that it focuses on the dynamics of the relationship between a working couple, and how having a kid takes a toll on them,” he adds.

Sumeet, who was primarily a theatre actor before he got these meaty roles, wants to continue doing theatre. “A large part of my acting career involves theatre. There’s still a lot of work left in that space and I want to continue with it,” he says.
