American singer Selena Gomez showed off her blonde hair at the 2017 American Music Awards, which took place on Sunday evening. However, many fans accused Gomez of lip-syncing at the do. “I love Selena Gomez, but she made it so obvious that she lip sync through that whole performance hence why she had her head down & hair covering her face for 99% of the performance,” wrote one user.
The 2017 American Music Awards marked a night of unison and positive vibes, as musicians spoke about coming together in a year dominated by natural disasters, violence and divisive politics. Kelly Clarkson and Pink kicked off the three-hour show with a performance honouring the first responders and those affected by tragic events of the year — from hurricanes to hate crimes. Actor Jamie Foxx gave a heartfelt speech before the pop stars sang rock band R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts. Actor Tracee Ellis Ross, who hosted the show, addressed the multiple sexual allegations against powerful men in Hollywood, the media, business and politics. While women musicians gave some of the biggest moments from the event, male artists were busy collecting awards during the night.
Bruno Mars, who wasn’t present at the event, was the big winner with seven awards, including Entertainer of the Year. Mars also won Video of the Year, Favourite Male Artist, and Favourite Album. “I wish I could be partying with y’all,” said Mars in a video. Also picking up multiple awards were Keith Urban, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber.
Diana Ross received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama congratulated her in a video, before she sang a medley of her hits.
