TV host Charlie Rose suspended following sexual harassment claims
TV host Charlie Rose has been suspended by three media organizations after a detailed report in which eight women, former employees of Rose accused the longtime journalist of sexual harassment.
While PBS and Bloomberg will stop distributing Rose’s eponymous show, Charlie Rose, CBS has suspended the 75-year-old from his role as cohost on their show, This Morning.
While Bloomberg said it was “deeply disturbed” by the allegations against Rose, and was “immediately suspending the show from airing on the channel, PBS released a statement, which said, “PBS was shocked to learn today of these deeply disturbing allegations. We are immediately suspending the distribution of Charlie Rose. We expect our producers to provide a workplace where people feel safe and are treated with dignity and respect.”
Responding to the allegations, Rose apologised for his inappropriate behaviour on Twitter, saying, “In the past few days, claims have been made about my behaviour toward some former female colleagues. I apologise for my inappropriate behaviour.”
The statement continued, “I have behaved insensitively at times. I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe all allegations are accurate. I felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.”
