GIVING DEATH THREATS IS WRONG: NANA
Nana Patekar weighs in on the Padmavati controversy
Veteran actor Nana Patekar said on Thursday that death threats to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Deepika Padukone in connection with the film Padmavati were unacceptable.
“Why does controversy happen in his films? I feel this is not a big issue, but death threats to Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are completely wrong and unacceptable,” said Patekar, who has won three National Film Awards for his performances in Parinda (1990), Krantiveer (1995), and Agni Sakshi (1997).
“As of now, I don’t know how the characters are portrayed. I can react only after watching the film,” the actor said.
Last week, the Supreme Court rejected the petition filed against the release of Padmavati, as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not yet issued a certificate to the film.
Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, the film has been facing protests from various groups for allegedly distorting historical facts.
The Shree Rajput Karni Sena had warned Bhansali with dire consequences for misrepresenting Rajput queen Padmavati in the film. ANI
