Two years back, on a holiday in Vietnam, as marketing professional Rajesh Ramakrishnan sat for lunch in a restaurant, his eye wandered towards the roof of the eatery, where a terrifying, disfigured body lay sprawled, and he instantly captured the silhouette. The photograph, titled Window Cleaner, along with pictures by freelance photographer Ranu Jain, will be on display at Street from the heart — an upcoming show that has 36 photographs clicked across the world, curated by Saud Al Faisal.

“I started learning photography at evening workshops in Mumbai, about 13 years back. Before that, when I encountered an issue, I would tackle it in a particular way, but photography taught me to see things with a different perspective,” says Ramakrishnan. His work titled Grape Masks, brings an instant smile to viewers’ faces with its comic perspective.

Ranu Jain’s images are usually reflective of the poetic side of life. “In the picture titled Still Life, taken in Dubai, where a pigeon takes flight above a street art on a wall, I shot it because I felt as if the bird was taking flight from the artwork,” says Jain, who is largely self-taught. About her photograph, Reflections, clicked in New York, she says, “I took this picture of people walking with umbrellas, as it reflected on the window of a shop from the inside. The boundaries of the inner and the outer world came together at that point.”
