It’s important to keep challenging myself: Divya
She started her career as an actor with the 2004 film, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo, alongside Akshay Kumar. After that, actor-director Divya Khosla Kumar dabbled in music video direction and also got trained in cinematography and editing. Her first directorial venture was Yaariyan (2014), and she followed it up with Sanam Re (2016). And now, she is happy to get a “great response” for her latest acting venture – a short film, Bulbul.
How was it facing the camera again?
I have been working behind the camera for a while now, so my journey as a technician has taught me a lot. Over time, I have grown as a technician and a performer. As for Bulbul, I just became that character and then related to it from a director’s point of view. Then, things flowed effortlessly.
What made you say yes to Bulbul?
As a creative person, it is important to keep challenging myself. Bulbul was definitely challenging since I had to play so many different characters. It came organically to me, but I am not like her at all. In real life, I am very shy. I am thankful and grateful for all the praise.
You made your Bollywood debut in 2004. How has the journey been?
It has been a great learning process. When you are an outsider, you have to start from the bottom and work your way up gradually. On the contrary, my son (Ruhaan) already knows a lot about the industry as well as the filmmaking nuances. But I still have a lot to learn and the journey is still on.
Are you going to act in a fullfledged film now?
I am open to acting now. So, if I get a great script, I am definitely going to pursue it. As for the next film, I have been working on a script. But I am not fully satisfied with it.
