Wanted: A willing promoter for Bryan Adams’ show in India
Canadian singersongwriter Bryan Adams’ love affair with India continues, but right now, there’s an unhappy twist in the tale. Adams, 58, has performed in India on four occasions — the last time was in 2011 — and he’d love to do a fifth tour. What stands between him and fans is an abyss: the absence of a willing concert promoter.
“Please let everyone know [that] I really want to perform in India, but we can’t find a promoter,” says Adams, in an e-mail interview. The Summer of 69 singer had, in February this year, shared a photo on social media, hinting at the possibility of returning to India, as a part of his Get Up world tour. But this isn’t happening, as of now.
“I’ve had an excellent relation with Indian fans,” says Adams. “We were the first Western artists to perform in a stadium in India, back in the early ’90s [and] it has been a huge love affair since then. I don’t understand why we can’t get [the tour] started.”
Back in 2011, his concert in Delhi got scrapped, as the promoters couldn’t get a police clearance. Adams had then performed in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Kolkata. “[The Delhi show cancellation] was incredibly disappointing,” says the singer.
He’s a stoic, though. Even as album sales dip globally, Adams believes in records, and released one, titled Ultimate, recently. He says, “Yes, albums are slowly dying, but not everywhere and not yet. So as long as they still make them, I’ll release them.”
