Actor Neetu Chandra was last seen in Bollywood in Kucch Luv Jaisaa (2011) after which she shifted her focus to southern cinema and producing Bhojpuri films. The actor seems to be in no hurry to come back to Bollywood and nothing will pressure her into taking up a project. “I will only look at doing a Bollywood film when it is by choice because I’m so engrossed in doing a lot of theatre. It has given me a lot of satisfaction and has polished me as an actor and as a human being. But from next year, you will see me in a lot of Bollywood films. The time is right and I’m excited about it,” says Neetu.

The actor ventured into production of Bhojpuri films with Deswa, which has finally found a release on the digital medium now. She feels there is no bigger joy.

“I’m very proud of the fact that I did a Bhojpuri film for my first production because it’s my mother tongue. I come from a background where I’ve worked with the biggies of the industry but the kind of image Bhojpuri cinema had, initially everyone was apprehensive and nobody had supported us. I was upset about why the people were positioning Bhojpuri as a low grade language,” says the actor, who won a National award for her production, Mithila Makhaan.

Neetu believes that the negative image of Bhojpuri cinema is finally changing. “I have often said that I want to change the face of Bhojpuri cinema and I feel it’s happening now. We are trying to bring this change because it doesn’t matter whether you are doing something or not, but you cannot be blind towards the kind of crass films Bhojpuri cinema is currently producing, which are a representation of our Bihar culture in front of the world,” says the actor, who has been part of Bollywood films such as Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye (2008), Rann (2010) and Apartment (2010).
