Director Anurag Kashyap’s latest release, Mukkabaaz, is garnering praise from all quarters. And, not just for the acting chops displayed by the actors, but for the music too. The song, Mushkil Hai Apna Mel Priye, is a hit with listeners ever since the trailer came out, and it currently has more than 2 million views on YouTube.

However, what many people might not know is that the song is actually a poem written by Padma Shri Sunil Jogi. “I had written this poem about 20 years ago. Anurag ji [Kashyap, the director] had heard it and became a fan of it for 17 years. When he was making this film, he asked me if he could use it. Of course, I was happy to yes. He is a talented director with a unique method of working. We are good friends now, and hope to work together again.”

The song is about a lover telling his beloved that their union is going to be full of difficulties. That is also the story line of the film between the actors Vineet Singh and Zoya Hussain.

Asked if there was any person in real-life who inspired him to pen this poem, Jogi says, “There is no one real person. I’ve drawn inspiration from what happens in and around our society. Many people fall in love but can’t move forward or never receive love. And there are various reasons for this. Sometimes, the differences are on the social level, cultural level or even on the financial level.”
