‘GROWING UP, I DREAMED OF BEING ARCHIE’

Actor Karan Tacker recalls going to the raddiwala to buy Archie comics and enjoying the series as a child

-

TV actor Karan Tacker doesn’t have a favourite book, but he believes one should read Paulo Coelho at least once. Here’s more on why he reads and what he reads:

Which books are currently on your reading list?

I just finished Murder on the Orient Express.

Which was the best book you’ve read so far?

It’s hard to pick one book, because you keep changing. So you vibe differently with different subjects, but The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho has had a great impact on me.

Which genres do you enjoy reading? Which do you avoid? I am not a voracious reader, but I like self-help books.

Which book do you think everyone should read at least once?

The Alchemist.

What do you like to read when you travel?

Thrillers.

Which is your favourite fairy tale or folk story?

I haven’t read many fairy tales, but when I was growing up, I remember going to the raddiwala to buy second-hand Archie comics. I dreamed of being Archie and having two girls swooning after him.

What kind of reader were you as a child?

More than reading, I can never forget my mother narrating stories to me from textbooks. My mother has a master’s degree in Hindi, so she used to narrate the stories like it were a film, with the right pauses and suspense. I guess that’s where I get my liking for being a part of story telling.

If you had to name one book that made you who you are today, which would it be?

Like I said, you grow with times and the things you see and read. I read a lot of articles, studies and research, so it’s hard to pick. I’ve always been addicted to TED Talks and like listening to people and their experiences. That motivates me and gives me that drive. So to answer that, I guess a little bit of everything I’ve read until now has stayed with me. HTC
